Abstract: As part of a program of response to the 1999 Marmara, Turkey, earthquake, an estimated 1,500 trauma victims with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms were treated in tent cities with eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR). A field study evaluating a representative group of 41 participants with diagnosed PTSD indicated that a mean of five 90-minute sessions was sufficient to eliminate symptoms in 92.7% of those treated, with reduction in symptoms in the remaining participants. Significant reductions occurred between the pre and posttreatment PTSD Symptom Scale Self-Report version (PSS-SR) total scores and all subscales. These gains were maintained at 6-month follow-up. The same pattern of recovery was observed regardless of the use or nonuse of psychotropic medication at the time of intake.

Özet: 1999 yılındaki Marmara depremine müdahale programının bir parçası olarak, travma sonrası stres bozukluğu (TSSB) semptomları olan tahmini 1.500 travma mağduru, çadır kentlerde Göz Hareketleriyle Duyarsızlaştırma ve Yeniden İşleme (EMDR) yöntemiyle tedavi edildi. TSSB tanısı almış 41 katılımcıdan oluşan temsili bir grubu değerlendiren saha çalışmasının sonuçlarına göre, 90 dakika sürmek kaidesiyle ortalama 5 adet seans yapılarak tedavi edilen kişilerin %92,7'sinde semptomlar tamamen ortadan kaldırmıştır ve geri kalan katılımcıların semptomlarında azalma görülmüştür. Katılımcılara verilen TSSB Belirtileri Ölçeği’nin Kendini Değerlendirme Versiyonu’nun sonuçlarına göre (TSSBÖ-KD) tedavi sonrasında, tedavi öncesine göre, toplam puanları ve tüm alt ölçeklerde anlamlı azalmalar meydana geldi. Bu kazanımların 6 aylık takipte de korunduğu gözlemlendi. Katılımcılar araştırmaya ilk dahil edildiği zamandan itibaren iyileşme psikotropik ilaçları kullanılıp kullanılmamasına bakılmaksızın  gözlemlendi.
